Based on the autobiography of Frank McCourt, the film follows the experiences of young Frankie and his family as they try against to escape the poverty endemic in the slums of pre-war Limerick. Sir Alan William Parker CBE was an English filmmaker. His early career, beginning in his late teens, was spent as a copywriter and director of television advertisements.
