Original CAA agency copy of the first draft rewrite for Contact, the 1997 Warner Bros. Science fiction drama starring Jodie Foster and directed by Robert Zemeckis. Hart and Michael Goldenberg, based on the novel by Carl Sagan. Dated October 11, 1993 - nearly four years before the film's theatrical release - and bearing both CAA and Lynda Obst Productions / Warner Brothers provenance on the title page. Carl Sagan, who wrote the original novel and remained deeply involved in the film's development, passed away in December 1996, months before the film's release.

This draft predates his death by three years, making it a document of both Hollywood and scientific history from one of the most beloved public intellectuals of the 20th century.
