Original vintage screenplay titled "VALLEY GIRLS", written by James Polakof and Deborah Amelon, and registered with the Writers Guild of America West (#266818). This script represents the original shooting title of the 1982 feature film later released as.
The title was changed prior to release to avoid confusion with Martha Coolidge's. Set in early-1980s Southern California, the story follows Sam, Trish, Beth, and Annie -four Valley Girls bored with endless shopping, frat parties, and Beverly Hills rivalries. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they befriend Mr. Stanton, a kind man who runs a home for orphaned boys. When the home faces eviction due to unpaid rent-and one of the boys is drawn into dealing drugs for a pair of sleazy criminals-the girls and their frat-boy boyfriends band together.
What follows is classic 1980s teen mayhem. A stolen "TUBUL R" Mercedes convertible lost in a rigged bet. A rescue mission to save the orphanage.
And a final act of revenge against their Beverly Hills rivals. The story blends teen comedy, light crime, and social conscience, culminating in the Valley Girls-now fully embracing their identity as "The Vals" -outsmarting the villains and saving the day.
