Painting Photography Film Laszlo MOHOLY-NAGY Bauhaus book ENGLISH Modernism RARE
With a Note by Hans M. Wingler and a Postscript by Otto Stelzer. 152 pages with 100 b+w illustrations. 190 mm x 255 mm x 19 mm. This translation of Malerei, Fotografie, Film originally appeared as Volume 8 in the Bauhausbücher series in 1925 (second edition 1927), the German edition was reissued in 1967 in facsimile in the series Neue Bauhausbücher by Florian Kupferberg Verlag, Mainz.
In an effort to convey something of the true flavour of the original volume, an attempt has been made in this English Language edition to adhere as closely as possible to the original typography and make up of the (second) German edition. The book presents the Bauhaus artist's treatise on light, space and kinetics and features myraid examples of his work, including his Rayographs (which he made without a camera), super-wide-angle images, double prints, collages and montages among others. The condition is good to very good. There is a little scattered light foxing on the end papers and pages edges otherwise internally the book is clean and bright.
The binding is sound and there are no inscriptions. The black board covers are excellent. The original dust wrapper is present and has some wear along the edges and a vertical scuff mark on the front but is otherwise very good. A wonderful, important and scarce publication.
