His wife has left him, and he is having an affair with the Chancellor of the university (McDormand).Grady's editor Downey, Jr. Inquires about the novel, but becomes interested in a book by one of Grady's students (Maguire), as well as having other, more intimate intentions. Shot on location throughout Pennsylvania. Bob Dylan won an Academy Award for his original song, "Things Have Changed, " and the film was nominated for two more.
